Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor/Manager

  • Join a supportive workplace with excellent team culture and rewarding vision
  • Autonomous role for person with strong ability to influence and mentor
  • Make a positive and significant difference to our safety culture

Who we are:

Cawthron provides practical and independent aquatic and environmental research expertise, scientific technologies and analytical services to help build environmentally and economically resilient communities.

Our vision is to be an internationally recognised research organisation, delivering independent, world-class science that helps to build a better future for New Zealand.

About the role and you:

Based in the Human Resources group you'll be undertaking everything you'd expect as a health and safety professional and be using your technical skills and expertise to the full while looking for value-adding opportunity.

You will work to enhance and champion a proactive, safety-focused culture where employees play an active role in the health, safety and wellbeing of the organisation.

You'll have a solid track record in either marine farming, laboratory, biosecurity or environmental health and safety plus proven experience working with others. You will be able to build safety capability through targeted training, coaching and mentoring. Develop people centred best practice risk-based systems and wellness programmes. Deliver strategic project initiatives that bring value outcomes not compliance systems. Harness learning, from across the business and use it to continually improve. Needless to say, excellent interpersonal skills are required.

You'll hold a tertiary qualification in relevant health, safety and wellbeing disciplines, and/or ideally, have at least three-five years health, safety and wellbeing advisor type experience with a focus on building a positive safety culture in a complex and multi-site environment. You'll also have an open mind and the confidence to bring new ideas to the table and be able to convert these into the process for delivery.

This role is about satisfaction, more opportunity, experiences, innovation and being part of a growing business with work-life balance.

The position is fixed term for one year and full time, although part time will be considered for the right candidate.

What we offer
We are a close-knit team who demonstrate energy, vision and initiative. We will offer a competitive salary, development opportunities, income protection and other insurances and a workplace you are proud to say you are a part of.

No day will ever look the same as you immerse yourself into this busy and dynamic environment. If you have a positive, hands-on approach, with excellent communication skills and love working with people where keeping them safe is your number one priority, then this is the role for you.

We’re proud to have a vision of being the most sought-after scientific research institute in the world, and we’re interested in speaking to health, safety and wellbeing professionals who can make a positive contribution. We will be flexible for the right person so if your interest is piqued, please get in touch - we’d like to talk.
