Aquaculture Technician Micro-algae and/or Shellfish


Cawthron’s aquaculture research is transforming the way New Zealand farms seafood. We’re looking for enthusiastic aquaculture technicians to join our team in Nelson who are keen to be a part of our vision for a productive and sustainable seafood sector.

We work closely with the aquaculture industry applying a practical multidisciplinary approach to solve their problems. We lead research in a number of key areas including hatchery production, shellfish and finfish physiology and health, selective breeding, algae production and new species development as well as open ocean aquaculture research. 


Aquaculture Technician – Micro-algae and/or Shellfish

We are looking for tertiary qualified technicians, who are passionate about aquaculture with prior algae production and/or shellfish hatchery experience.

We are seeking technicians to focus on micro-algae production as well as on a variety of tasks that may include broodstock conditioning, animal husbandry, pond management, nursery production, experimental setup and data collection.

The roles provide technical support for the Aquaculture Group’s research and commercial objectives. Initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility and a can-do attitude are essential. 

These positions are based at purpose built facilities at the Cawthron Aquaculture Park 15 minutes drive from Nelson, New Zealand.
